Hi friends, and thanks for stopping by to read Dating is Ruff; Dogs Just Want Treats.

Yup, my dog is about the best relationship I’ve ever had.

Let’s be honest: modern dating is a mess.

You match with someone, they look decent, their profile says “I’m looking for a serious relationship,” and then poof! They disappear faster than your dog when you say “bath.”

Meanwhile, your dog is sitting at home, tail wagging, thrilled just because you exist and maybe come bearing treats.

The dating scene – red flags and ghosting

First dates are exhausting. You spend an hour getting ready, squeeze into the good jeans, and listen to a stranger talk about his kombucha hobby or how his ex was “crazy.” You split the bill. You go home, question all your life choices, and swear off men forever. Again.

And then your dog jumps on the couch, puts their head on your lap, and lets out a happy sigh that sounds exactly like “Finally. You’re home. Let’s never leave again.”

Dogs: the ultimate low-maintenance relationship

Here’s what dogs want:

  • Food
  • Walks
  • Attention
  • Unconditional love
  • Maybe a squirrel to chase

That’s it. No games. No “seen” messages and no replies. No cryptic texts like “k.” No long-distance entanglements. Just pure, slobbery adoration.

Things I never hear from my dog

  • “I’m just not ready for anything serious right now.”
  • “Sorry, I forgot to text you back for 6 days.”
  • “Let’s hang out… but not call it dating.”
  • “I still talk to my ex. We’re just friends.”

Instead, I get:

  • Tail wags
  • Excited spins every time I grab a leash
  • Soulful eyes that say “You are my entire world, but mostly, where’s the peanut butter?”

Love with no expiration date

The older I get, the more I realize I don’t need dinner dates or clever text banter. I need a loyal buddy who won’t judge my pajama pants or my decision to eat popcorn for dinner. Again.

In the end, I’ll still check dating apps now and then. But the one who’s getting all my heart (and most of my bed) is the four-legged best friend who’s never once ghosted me.

Ruff final thoughts

Dating is confusing, awkward, and occasionally soul-crushing. Dogs are joyful, loyal, and always think you’re the best thing since sliced bacon.

So if you’re torn between another date or a night at home with your dog? Just remember:

One will swipe left. The other will stay curled up at your feet, no questions asked.
