Hi friends, and thanks for stopping by to read My Horse Doesn’t Care…
There are days when I arrive at the barn looking like I lost an argument with a hairbrush. No makeup. Hair pulled back into whatever vaguely resembles a ponytail. Old jeans with a hole in them. A shirt that has seen better days. And quite possibly a hat that should have been retired several years ago.
Cajun doesn’t care.

He doesn’t care whether I’m wearing makeup or whether I remembered to brush my hair. He doesn’t care if my jeans are torn, my shirt is stained, or I’m wearing the most ridiculous Christmas sweater ever produced. He doesn’t care if I’ve had a good day or a bad day, whether I look ten years younger or ten years older, or whether I think I look fabulous when I walk through the barn door.
He does, however, care very deeply about what’s in my pockets.
And that’s one of the things I love about horses. They don’t judge us by the things we spend so much time worrying about. They don’t care about wrinkles, gray hair, fashion, or whether our jeans still fit the way they did five years ago. They just know us. And if we’re the person who brings the carrots, well, we’re pretty much perfect.
My horse doesn’t care…
There are many things I love about horses, and one of them is that horses are not judgmental.
My horse doesn’t care if I’m wearing makeup. And that’s a good thing because I rarely am!
My horse doesn’t care if I’m wearing an ugly hat.

My horse doesn’t care if my hair is a disaster.
My horse doesn’t care if I’m wearing torn jeans.
My horse doesn’t care if my shirt has a stain on it.
My horse doesn’t care if I’ve worn the same clothes to the barn three days in a row.
My horse doesn’t care about my ugly Christmas sweater.
My horse doesn’t care if I’ve gained 5 pounds.
My horse doesn’t care if I’ve lost 5 pounds.
My horse doesn’t care if I’ve lost 35 pounds. Well… Cajun might have had an opinion on that one! He’s probably thinking: “Excellent. Same human. Slightly less weight. Where are the carrots?”
Although, come to think of it, I’ve actually lost over 200 pounds in my lifetime.
Not through some miracle diet or complicated exercise program.
Divorce.
And if Cajun could talk, I’m pretty sure he’d say: “I don’t know what you did, but I’m glad that loser you were dragging around for years isn’t showing up at the barn anymore.”
Anyway, back at it. What my horse doesn’t care about!
My horse doesn’t care if I have wrinkles.
My horse doesn’t care if I look 10 years older than that picture I just posted.

My horse doesn’t care if I can’t remember why I walked into the barn.
My horse doesn’t care if I haven’t had a shower yet.
My horse doesn’t care about my expensive clothes – but he does care if I forgot the carrots.
And that about covers it: My horse doesn’t care what I look like. He cares what I have in my pocket.
Maybe that’s one of the things I love most about horses. They don’t care how old we are, how we look, or whether we’re having a good hair day. They just want us to show up.
Preferably with carrots.
Happy Cowgirl Monday!
xoxo
