Hi friends, and thanks for stopping by to read Easy Tortilla Wraps for Vegetarian Travellers and Housesitters.
If you’re not a housesitter yet, check out my article When You Have Nowhere to Go – Go Everywhere! That article includes referral codes so if you sign up, you can get a few bucks off the housesitting websites that I use.
When you’re housesitting or travelling, kitchens are unpredictable. Some are fully stocked. Some have one pan and a broken can opener.
One of the first things I do when I arrive at a housesit is check the kitchen. Often the fridge is nearly empty because the homeowners have sensibly used up most of their perishables before leaving. That’s fine with me. I usually buy my own groceries anyway, and tortilla wraps are one of the first things I toss into my shopping basket.
Why wraps work so well for travellers and housesitters
- No special equipment needed
- Take up little space
- Can be frozen
- Work for one person
- Easy to use up before moving on
- Turn leftovers into a portable meal
- Available in most grocery stores
For sure, wraps are my back up plan!

🌯 Wrap it up!
If you’re like me, you end up wrapping the sloppiest wrap around that doesn’t stay rolled up and the filling oozes out from every possible angle. Not even a toothpick can hold it together well. This method has worked reasonably well for me.
- Place filling slightly below center
- Leave about 2–3 inches from the bottom edge
- Fold the bottom up over the filling
- This locks the filling in place
- Fold in the left and right sides
- Like sealing an envelope
- Roll forward tightly
- Keep pressure so it stays compact
👉 The key is tightness, not fullness. Overfilling is what makes wraps fall apart.

💡 Housesitting Tip
Always assume:
- You may not have containers
- You may not have spices
- You may not even have proper storage
👉 Wraps remove all of that stress.
✈️ Travel Wrap Rule
If it can survive in a bag for a few hours, it can be a wrap.
